Direct rail links bring Osnabrück and Hamburg closer together

TFG Transfracht and Container Terminal Osnabrück offer CO2-free transport by rail • Six new direct rail connections save up to 5,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year

Good news for the New Year: TFG Transfracht and the terminal operator Container Ter-minal Osnabrück (CTOS) are offering six weekly direct rail connections between the economic region of Osnabrück and Hamburg from January 10. Using TFGeco train, the rail transports are 100 percent CO2-free with green electricity. Operations at the Osna-brück terminal also run on 100 percent green electricity. The aim of the partners is to offer customers environmentally friendly transport solutions for switching from road to rail.

"We are delighted to expand our range of shortland feeders with the Osnabrück con-nection and to meet the growing demand for climate-friendly transport solutions. By expanding rail transport, we are offering a genuine rail alternative to road. In this way, we are shifting another 30,000 TEU from road to rail in the region and achieving a sav-ing of up to 5,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year for our climate," explains Frank Gedat, Head of Regional Division North East TFG Transfracht.

"With TFG's six new connections, we are getting another important building block for attractive and environmentally friendly CT connections in the region," emphasizes Björn Tiemann, Managing Director Container Terminal Osnabrück.

The new hub for combined transport has been under construction since spring 2020 on a 9.5-hectare former barracks area at the Osnabrück port site and has a stowage ca-pacity of 2,000 TEU. Four tracks, each 730 meters long, and two tracks, each 300 me-ters long, as well as two gantry cranes, each 40 meters high, are available for handling.
